Normally within our Disability Champions meetings at the Centre for Inclusive Living (CILPK) we get round the table together with an Agenda and discuss the topics and give light to new ones, including information, news and events that might be happening in and around the Perth and Kinross area and how they include or disenfranchise disabled people within the community.
The members are able to discuss or help promote what’s going on in the area or indeed highlight difficulties they are coming across and how that can be fed back to the relevant authorities so they can enjoy equality within their community.
In our last meeting heard early June, we altered the format a little to discuss 3 separate projects that the Members were interested in.
We met around different tables to discuss each of the projects.

Toilets around Perth
Disabled individuals are finding that there is a lack of facilities in the area, especially on weekends or evenings and some individuals are known to have preferred just to go home rather than face a struggle to find a toilet that can accomodate both them and sometimes their carer too if they need extra support and privacy.
This is an area we are very keen to explore and we have some funding to do so. We would be very interested if any third parties would come forward who could suggest, help or even sponsor this project.
Look out for our campaigns coming soon.

Easy Read
Centre for Inclusive Living have been given some funding to explore Easy Read and how we can hopefully standardise a way to use Photo Symbols instead of differing methods of communicating to those with learning disabilities.
We are involved in an International Easy Read Community of Practice group, a variety of individuals and organisations across the world with an interest in Easy Read and how it can be moved forward to a more standardised approach. We take part in conference calls and the documentation that is being produced to support this approach.

3D Bag Tag
The final project was a fun but practical way to have a bag tag created. Members would be involved from the start in designing a bag tag that eventually will be printed in to a 3D object and can be attached to a bag.
We hope to do this on a free application called Tinkercad (try it!) at The Y Centre, Perth, in August – get in touch if you are interested.
