What does independence mean?

Independence means being able to do things by yourself without needing too much help from others. It is about making your own choices and taking care of yourself. For example, tying your own shoes, choosing what to eat, or deciding what to do in your free time are all ways of being independent.

Independence does not mean you never ask for help. Sometimes, everyone needs support, but it means you can try to do things on your own first and make your own decisions when possible.

On April 2nd at The Y Centre we (Centre for Inclusive Living P&K) in partnership HSCP (Health & Social Care Partnership) Perth & Kinross held our 2nd Hear Our Roar meeting which has an open invite to those with learning difficulties.

Those taking part were able to express via words and symbols what independence meant to them and after the exercise they could feedback to the whole group using a microphone.

Thank you also to the Carers from Corbenic Camphill, Upper Springlands and Gleneagles Day Opportunities who came and assisted, we appreciate you all so much!!
